Dear Baptist Friends Around the World:

You have seen the sad news regarding the Southern Baptist motion to withdraw funding for the Baptist World Alliance.   We leaders in the Baptist General Convention of Texas disagree with this proposal.  Dr. Wade, our BGCT staff, and I greatly lament this posture of divisiveness.  We pledge to you our strong support for the Baptist World Alliance.  You are our brothers and sisters in Christ, and we are proud to be part of the worldwide Baptist family.

Just this week, Dr. Wade and our staff worked alongside Dallas Baptist University to host Denton Lotz, Billy Kim, and a choir of sixty beautiful children from South Korea.  We did this to highlight the wonderful work of the BWA.  This healthy exposure to such world leaders will result in more financial support from various key Texas Baptist churches.  We will continue this kind of direct promotion, urging our local churches to join in prayer and financial support for the many worthy causes of the Baptist World Alliance.

Just for your encouragement, Texas Baptists gave $143,000 to BWAid last year.   We also directly support the financial needs of many indigenous church planters who work with the European Baptist Federation, part of the BWA.

Again, Texas Baptists assure you of our friendship and fellowship.   We admire your courageous stand for the cause of Christ.  We take joy in working alongside you and pledge our prayers for your Kingdom efforts.

Grace and Peace for you in 2004.
