MAINSTREAM MESSENGER Vol. 2, No. 5 November 1999 Editor: Bruce PrescottOklahomans Leading Texas Baptists While Mainstream Baptists are exiled from Baptist life in Oklahoma, in Texas their service is welcomed. For example, last month Charles Wade, Oklahoma Baptist University graduate and former trustee of OBU, was called to be the Executive Director of the Baptist General Convention of Texas.
Dr. Wade, shown here with his wife, Rosemary, is a former pastor of First Baptist in Enid. He has pastored churches in Alex, Fort Supply, Francis, May and Woodward Oklahoma. He has also served on the National Coordinating Council of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. Wade heads a long list of former Oklahomans who have served the Texas Baptist Convention in positions of leadership.
Dr. Jerold McBride, former Director of Evangelism in Oklahoma recently served as President of the Texas Convention and
Dr. Clyde Glazener, OBU graduate and native of Ponca City, was elected President of the Texas Baptist Convention in November 1999.
