A letter that a former Southern Baptist missionary
sent to Jerry Falwell
You, [Jerry Falwell], [Jerry] Vines, and [Pat] Robertson have helped to
create the atmosphere of hatred that has produced open season on Baptist
missionaries around the world with your vitriolic rhetoric. You
will bear
some of the blame for every missionary that is slaughtered, like those in
Yemen. It takes absolutely no courage to spout
your venom in Virginia. Why
don't you travel to the Yemen, Indonesia, or Saudi Arabia and hurl your
invectives against Mohammad.
I spent ten years in Indonesia, and could tell you far more than you know
about the excesses and abuses of Islam. But your
approach makes as much
sense as shaking your foot in the face of a rattlesnake - and violates the
very spirit of the Lord you claim to serve. You
will succeed in making it
virtually impossible for God's servants to live and proclaim the Gospel in
Muslim countries.
God help you.
