MAINSTREAM MESSENGER Vol. 2, No. 5 December 1999 Editor: Bruce PrescottPost-Convention SupplementOnline Poll to Determine Fundamentalist Home Since the Daily Oklahoman printed some of my remarks at the Mainstream Brunch, several Fundamentalists have taken umbrage at my saying they “have the inside track to God’s outhouse.” Actually, I meant to say “doghouse” and was surprised to learn from several sources that I had indeed said “outhouse.” At the BGCO meeting I apologized to both the president and the executive director of BGCO for the different image that was conveyed by the metaphor. Recent correspondence indicates that the Executive Director has forgotten that he told me at that time, “I accept your apology.” I must admit that I am at a loss when it comes to understanding the source for my slip of tongue. Was it a Freudian slip? Or, was it, as some who heard it insist, an inspiration from the Spirit of God? Many of my Mainstream friends tell me that “outhouse” poignantly conveys the sentiment that Fundamentalism stinks to high heaven. I am still in a quandary about this. So, I have decided to ask you to make the call. Vote in our Online Poll: Do Fundamentalists have an inside track to God’s “doghouse” or God’s “outhouse”? Put a check in the box beside your vote We’ll give you the results in a future issue. BP
