Bruce Prescott Named Mainstream Baptists Executive Director

Bruce Prescott was elected Executive Director of Mainstream Oklahoma Baptists in Norman, OK September 11, 1998.  Dr. Prescott was nominated by the Mainstream Personnel Committee that is chaired by Vaughn Crowe Tipton.  The Mainstream Executive Board unanimously elected Prescott after and introductory dinner meeting that was hosted by President Dan S. Hobbs.

Prescott is married to former Oklahoman Kylene Winters Prescott whose father, Dr. Doyle Winters, pastored at Nicoma Park Baptist Church in the late 1960's.  They have been married twenty-five years and have two children.  Their son, Bill, is a student at Rice University, and their daughter Candice, is in high school. 

Dr. Prescott, born in Colorado and raised in New Mexico, has long been active in Texas Baptist affairs.  For the past twelve years he has pastored Easthaven Baptist Church in Houston.  Prescott has served as a member of the Executive Boards of Texas Baptists Committed and the Baptist General Convention of Texas as well as on the Coordinating Council of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.  He has also served as an Adjunct Professor for Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary at the extension on the campus of Houston Baptist University.  While in Houston, Dr. Prescott's service was recognized by listings in Who's Who in Religion, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in America, and Who's Who in the World.

Prior to his ministry in Texas, Prescott was a police officer with the Albuquerque Police Department.  After earning a B.S. in Corrections from the University of Albuquerque, he went on to earn Master of Divinity and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.  While in Fort Worth, Prescott was selected for inclusion in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities and Outstanding Young Men of America. He served as a Teaching Fellow at Southwestern Seminary and Instructor of Philosophy and Religion at Tarrant County Junior College's Northwest Campus.

Baptist distinctives has been Dr. Prescott's area of greatest expertise.  He has served on the Baptist Distinctives Committee of the Baptist General Convention of Texas and Chaired the Baptist Distinctives Partnership Team of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.  He is a contributor to the Mercer Dictionary of the Bible and has written several articles for Baptists Today, the Texas Baptists Committed Newsletter, and several other periodicals.

Prescott will complete his Easthaven pastorate in late September.  He assumes the position of Executive Director for Mainstream Oklahoma Baptists shortly thereafter.
