MAINSTREAM MESSENGER

Vol. 1, No. 1  April 1998

Board Approves Administrator Role

The Mainstream Oklahoma Baptists Executive Board held a special meeting on March 14, 1998 and voted to move toward employing a full-time administrator.  Chair Dan S. Hobbs hosted the meeting in his home church, First Baptist, Norman, to consider accepting a $25,000 grant from Houston, TX layman, John Baugh, for the purpose.

In accepting Mr. Baugh's grant, the Board committed itself to matching it with Oklahoma funds.  The grant does not stipulate the amount of the grant and its match to be used for salary, benefits, and administrative expenses.  The only understanding was that, Mainstream Oklahoma Baptists similarly help another similar organization in another state, if we shall be able to do so.

A five-person Personnel Committee was appointed to develop a job description for a full-time Mainstream Oklahoma Baptists Administrator, and a plan for screening candidates.   Any Mainstream member may nominate a prospective administrator (including self-nominations).  The Executive Board expressed a wish to have an administrator named by June 1998.  Nominations were to be accepted by Personnel Committee Chair, Vaughn Crowe Tipton or by Mainstream Oklahoma Baptists Chair, Dan S. Hobbs.

At the Saturday, March 14, meeting Board members heard reports of progress in the organization's work, heard the treasurer's report, and approved development of an occasional newsletter to Mainstream members and friends.
