MAINSTREAM MESSENGER

Vol. 1, No. 1  April 1998

"Just Trust Me"

Sometimes when we try to talk with those in control, we get the message, "Just trust us."

The offer reminds me of when I worked with boys in residential treatment.  The kid who had not always been honest would complain, "You don't trust me."

We learned the best answer was, "I'd like to be able to trust you."

As we work to influence the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma, we Mainstream Baptists sincerely hope and pray that we eventually can develop mutual trust with the leadership.

Meanwhile, we think of advice we get when we visit in a large strange city:  don't travel alone and stay in well-lighted areas.  Until Mainstream Baptists can develop mutual trust with the new state leadership, we will try first, to make sure you never have to travel that way alone, and second, to make every effort to shine the light of truth into what might otherwise be the dark corners of Oklahoma Baptist life.
