MAINSTREAM MESSENGERVol. 1, No. 1 April 1998Organization Receives State Press The Daily Oklahoman, November 10 and 12, 1997, covered the formation and organization meeting of Mainstream Oklahoma Baptists. Articles by Religion Editor Pat Gilliland included interviews with Bob Stephenson, one of the organizers of the group. Bob was also elected to the Executive Board at the November 12 meeting. The organization luncheon was held at the Oklahoma City First Baptist Church. Other Board members are Pat Clement, Stigler; Billie Fogarty, Oklahoma City; Edgar Hallock, Norman; Jim Helderbrand, Tulsa; Dan S. Hobbs, Norman; Oma Jean Holt, Blair; Brown Hudson, Oklahoma City; Jim Huff, Oklahoma City; Jacque Ingram, Oklahoma City; Roxane Jensen, Oklahoma City; Richard Kahoe, Woodward; Randy Mitchell, Blair; Wayne Morris, Lawton; Clyde Petete, McAlester; Jon Tilinghast, Edmond; Vaughn Crowe Tipton, Ardmore; Bud Vance, Norman; Debbie Wallis, Bixby; Jody Williams, Ardmore; and Darrell Witten, Macomb. Elected officers were Dan S. Hobbs, Norman, Chair; Jody Williams, Ardmore, Vice-Chair (and Chair-Elect for 1998); and Jim Huff, Oklahoma City, Secretary/Treasurer. According to the November 12, 1997 article, the organization meeting drew about 100 Oklahoma Baptists to the meeting. Most of the organizers were also messengers to the simultaneous annual meeting of the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma in nearby Bethany. Richard D. Kahoe |
