Three Oklahomans Inducted into Mainstream Baptist Hall of Fame
Three Oklahomans were inducted into the first class of the national Mainstream Baptist Hall of Fame. Thirty-seven Baptists from around the country were inducted at the National Mainstream Baptist Convocation on February 15th. The Hall of Fame was launched to honor those who have shown courage and conviction in standing for Baptist principles and heritage. Oklahoma’s inductees were Dr. Lavonn Brown who pastored First Baptist Church of Norman for twenty-nine years before retiring in 1998, Edgar Hallock, Jr., now deceased, who with his wife Zelma, served as missionary in Brazil for forty-five years, and Bob Stephenson, a layman at First Baptist Church of Norman. Inductees from other states included Catherine Allen, Jimmy Allen, John Baugh, Carolyn Weatherford Crumpler, Russell Dilday, James Dunn, Alma Hunt, Randall Lolley, Dan Martin, Duke McCall, Keith Parks, Herbert Reynolds, Al Shackelford, Bill Sherman, Cecil Sherman, Walter Shurden, Foy Valentine, & Daniel Vestal. |
